Monday 28th March 2011 to Thursday 7th April 2011
Depart for the overnight crossing to Spain with Brittany Ferries. Cabin on ferry each way. Return from Caen back to Portsmouth.
4 nights Bed + Breakfast in 'The hotel Sol Playa' (www.hotelsolplaya.com) This hotel is located on the Promenade, and is walking distance to restaurants, night clubs, bars, and the grand stand for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. It is also close to the port and close to the docks where they have built the boats for the Americas Cup.
The hotel can arrange cycle hire for 10 euros a day or 40 euros for a week. When I visited in February 2011, the temperature was 20 and the cycles we hired were great, we rode out on the promenade and met 2 motorcycle groups that were enjoying the weather, and a meal. We joined in, and as we were on pedal cycles, we had a beer or three with our meal, and then rode back stopping off a couple more time, riding round the port, and admiring some of the yachts. The weather is likely to be pleasant and averaging 28. Take sun block and sun glasses. In Valencia, we will be shown round by a British National who works there.
The route we will follow will take us via the fantastic, fabulous, Picos mountains in Northern Spain, where we will stay the first night, giving us a 300 mile ride for the following day to Valencia, enjoying the mountain scenery. We will return taking in the Andorra region, where you will be able to enjoy tax free purchases (e.g. cigarettes - 240 Embassy for 22 Euros) and enjoy the views from the Cathar forts in the Pyrenees (photo). The roads in Andorra are fantastic, and the return route will take us over the Millau viaduct (photo) and carry on to the D-Day beaches, back to the ferry port for return crossing to Portsmouth.
If you make a booking with us, and wish to have your bike serviced before the trip, Bob Minion (Honda) motor cycle dealer in Derby will give a 10% discount on servicing. Just contact Mark Minion or Gavin Minion on 01332 371137.
